Midcentury Dutch 'Stokkenkast' Shelving Unit by Willem Lutjens for Gouda den Boer c.1975

A Dutch midcentury storage and display unit designed by Willem Lutjens for Gouda Den Boer, dating from circa 1975. Known as the Stokkenkast, the design is constructed from three long veneered plywood shelves supported by a rhythmic arrangement of slender solid timber uprights. Each shelf terminates in distinctive upturned ends, formed through bent laminated construction and finished with softly rounded edges that emphasise the lightness of the structure. The warm brown veneer is complemented by the cylindrical supports, which pass through the shelves and extend slightly above the upper level as characteristic peg-like details.
